We are excited to bring to you a classic Comedy!

we are open to some of the male only roles to be played by Females, including the lead, and Banjo.  Consider it!!

Main Characters and Descriptions

  • Sheridan Whiteside – 4-60 M/F  1,500–2,000+ lines : An opinionated, arrogant radio personality modeled on Alexander Woollcott. He dominates the household and acts as the “man who came to dinner”.
  • Maggie Cutler 20-40 F 600–900 lines: Whiteside’s dedicated secretary who falls in love with a local reporter and tries to escape Whiteside’s influence.
  • Mr. Ernest Stanley 40-60 M 100–200 lines : The prominent, conventional, and rigid owner of the house who quickly grows to despise his guest.
  • Mrs. Daisy Stanley 40-60 F 100–200 lines : His highly-strung wife who tries to maintain a pleasant demeanor.
  • Miss Preen  20-60 F 50-100 lines: Whiteside’s exasperated, overworked nurse who is frequently tormented by him.
  • Banjo 20-50 M/F 250–450 lines : A wild, comedic character modeled on Harpo Marx (played in the 1942 film by Jimmy Durante).
  • Lorraine Sheldon 20-40 F 250–400 lines : A glamorous and manipulative actress, modeled after Gertrude Lawrence, who tries to break up Maggie’s romance.
  • Beverly Carlton 20-40 F 300–500 lines : A charming and witty playwright modeled on Noël Coward.
  • Bert Jefferson 20-40 M 200–350 lines : A local newspaper reporter in love with Maggie.
  • Harriet Stanley 30-60 F 50-100 lines: Mr. Stanley’s timid sister with a mysterious, dark past.
  • June Stanley 20-30 F 150–300 lines : The Stanley’s daughter who is trying to defy her father.
  • Richard Stanley 20-30 M 50-100 lines: The Stanley’s son, an amateur photographer. 

Ensemble 50-200 lines will be double cast as various roles

  • John  M: The butler.
  • Sarah F: The cook.
  • Professor Metz M/F: An eccentric, bug-obsessed visitor.
  • Dr. Bradley 30-60 M/F: The local doctor who aims to write a book
